100% Ethical & Legal: Our CITES Certification Process

Absolutely no animal is harmed in the collection of the elephant hair used to craft our bracelets. All hair is ethically and naturally gathered along wild elephant trails and waterholes, with permission and oversight from relevant conservation authorities.

The Global Standard (CITES)

Because elephant hair is classified as an exotic wildlife item, it requires international regulation. We comply with CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). This global convention is administered by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), which oversees the CITES Secretariat located in Geneva, Switzerland.

Each bracelet we craft is inspected by wildlife authorities, and a CITES document is issued for that specific piece. This document is your proof that the hair was obtained legally and that all procedures comply with international law.

The South African Certification Journey

In our home province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, the regulatory body responsible for protecting our wildlife and issuing these permits is Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (operating with the same authority as the US Fish and Wildlife Service).

To ensure transparency, the certification of your bracelet follows a multi-stage process:

• Data Capture: Details of the bracelet to be shipped are entered into the system.

• Verification: This information is checked and vetted by our handler at the local Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife offices.

• Permit Approval: The cites document is now issued.

• Physical Inspection: The bracelet and accompanying documents are inspected and officially signed off by the authorities.
